Hi! My name is Jen (Mischenko) and I created this blog to write about the books that I read, favorite music, health matters, cooking, films, and other things that interest me. I love doing Q&A’s with authors and interacting with others.
The word “rant” in my blog name is used to describe anything I feel strongly or passionate about. I’m not a person who enjoys bashing books, and I try not to be over-opinionated; however, it does come out in my reviews from time to time if something is upsetting or incredibly displeasing.
I’ve loved reading as far back as I can remember. Reading has always been an escape for me. Once I becamea teenager I especially enjoyed reading fantasy. A few of my favorite authors were Anne Rice, J.R.R Tolkien, and L. Frank Baum. Now that I’m older, memoirs and other non-fiction have become favorite genres. Jodi Picoult, Nicholas Sparks, Debbie Macomber, Neil Gaiman, and Stephenie Meyer are a few favorites today. I’m an eclectic reader and there’s no limitation to what I’ll read. I even read children’s books quite often with my own kids, and we enjoy reviewing them.
Book sales in grade school couldn’t be passed up and I would get so excited when it was time for book fairs, especially at Christmas. I still have an addiction to book sales and can’t pass one up.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing guitar and piano, writing poetry and songs, and watching movies and TV series. I have an appreciation for nature, gardening, homesteading, education, and animals.
I enjoy reading and reviewing on Goodreads, Edelweiss, and Netgalley as well.

How I rate books:
*1-Star: This book was likely a chore to read, and I won’t recommend it. I rarely ever rate a book 1 star.
**2-Stars: I didn’t enjoy the book, but I finished it because it was readable.
***3-Stars: It was just okay; It may have been enjoyable, but I probably won’t read it again. I might still recommend it to others.
****4-Stars: The book is an enjoyable read that kept my interest. There might have been a few minor things I didn’t like, but overall it was great.
*****5-Stars: I loved it, and I’ll probably buy it for my collection. Highly recommend.

What instrument did you play in high school band? I played clarinet.

Hi, Lori! I played clarinet in band first and then switched to different saxophones. Good times. Cool that we have something in common! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

That’s a great quote by Dr. Suess. But I suppose you already knew that, hence its presence here. 😛

I remember all the cool catalogs we used to get in school for books. I was constantly ordering from them. My parents used to take me to the library every weekend when I was a kid. I think that’s where my love for reading (and writing) started. Great to connect with you!
