The Noel Stranger

My thoughts:

It was an early morning yesterday
I was up before the dawn
And I really have enjoyed my stay
But I must be moving on

Like a king without a castle
Like a queen without a throne
I’m an early morning lover
And I must be moving on

Now I believe in what you say
Is the undisputed truth
But I have to have things my own way
To keep me in my youth — “Goodbye Stranger” – Supertramp

Mild Spoilers:

Maggie Walther’s life is a pretty good one. She’s been married for nine years, owns a thriving catering business, and her husband is a well-liked local councilman. Everything is sailing smoothly in their lives until Maggie receives a phone call from the newspaper informing her that her husband has been arrested for bigamy.

Maggie goes into shock and begins to ask herself multiple questions: Why did he do this? Didn’t he love me? What’s wrong with me? Why wasn’t I enough? She falls into depression and must find a way to reclaim her life.

25 Days ‘Til Christmas

My thoughts:

25 Days ‘Til Christmas was nothing like what I expected. It’s much more complex than any other Christmas books I’ve read, dealing with some tough issues like depression, death, lonliness, suicide, and learning disorders.

In this story we read about Kate and Daniel, both living in Bristol, England, who are now suffering grief after loss. Kate’s husband (Tom) passed away after leaving for the army and she’s left to care for their young son (Jake) with little support. Daniel lost his sister (Zoe) due to a heart condition that was left untreated.

Lucas Bad Boys of Dry River, Wyoming (Book 1)

My thoughts:

It’s true that romance isn’t one of my favorite genres, but as an eclectic reader, every now and then I like to read something different. This book clearly fit the bill.

Emily’s ex-husband Adam is being released from prison and she’s worried he’ll come looking for her. He’s psychotic and there’s no way he’s going to let her move on without him. Emily knows the only way to protect herself is to find a man to protect her. The problem is that everyone is afraid of Adam; nobody has the guts to stand up to him. She chooses a man named Lucas who’s known to be one of the local bad boys. She offers him half of her family’s ranch, Whispering Pines, if he’ll marry her. Lucas thinks Emily is beautiful and the ranch is enticing, but he isn’t sure if he’s making the right decision. Even though they’ve known each other since they were kids, should Lucas be settling down with a girl he doesn’t know very well, and so soon?

My thoughts:

Did I ever fall in love with this sweet, Christmas story!

Angela is a single mom with an 8-year-old daughter named Caroline. Todd, her ex-husband, left years ago. She’s now living in Sutton, Massachusetts with no money, job, or much support at all. She hates that her daughter should ever have to worry about how the bills are going to get paid. Angela truly needs to catch a break and just wants her daughter to have a happy Christmas.

When visiting a local Christmas tree farm, Papa Shafer, the owner, tells Caroline that the trees they sell are miracle trees, but only if you believe. Caroline is fascinated and can’t wait to get their tree home, whereas Angela is afraid she’ll get her hope’s up only to be let down.
