This week’s share:

Mad Season

“Long Gone Day”

I’m currently reading Mark Lanegan’s new memoir Sing Backwards and Weep. There’s so much history here with mention of Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell and others. It’s really taken me back. Not only that, it’s brutally honest and eye-opening. I highly recommend it.

Mark has new music material and plenty in between, but I wanted to share an older song because it’s what’s on my mind after reading about these relationships in the book. I’ve talked about Mad Season before, but for those that don’t remember, Mad Season formed in Seattle, Washington in 1994 by members of Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees. They released only one album titled Above.

This is Mad Season with Mark and Layne on vocals. Hope you enjoy this share…

For this week, I’m bringing back a post from early 2017…

Mad Season

As a teen of the 90’s, grunge music became an escape. Some of my favorites included: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog, Screaming Trees, and Mad Season.

Mad Season formed in Seattle, Washington in 1994 by members of Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees. They released only one album titled Above which became one of my favorite grunge albums of all time. Things started falling apart not long after due to Layne Staley’s problems with substance abuse. Even though they attempted to mend the group again, the band crashed following the death of bassist John Baker Saunders in 1999. Layne Staley died three years later of a drug overdose. From May 7th: When I first started this blog, one of my intentions was to talk about music as much as possible, hence my blog name. 🙂 My very first music blog post from March 2017 featured Mad Season, a band that eventually included Chris Cornell and the next, Temple of the Dog. It felt great to talk about some of the music I’ve always loved. Little did I know, just a few months later he’d be gone like so many others before him.

I’m not one of those people who usually count dates or add up the time since someone has been gone, yet here I am doing it with Chris. It’s been a year this month and I can’t believe the time has flown. For the whole month of May–to honor Chris–I’ll be sharing some of my favorite Chris Cornell songs.

On Friday, which marked one year since Chris’s passing, I shared “Live To Rise” by Soundgarden. If you’d like to see that post you can click here.
